Tips to Lower Your Electric Bill

It's always a good time to lower your electric bill, but now is an even better time with energy costs rising. Here are 6 tips to help you lower your household electric bill:
Tip 1. Install dimmer switches: Want to add some ambience and conserve energy? Add the dimmer switch to areas you most most frequently but don't need full light. It decreases the amount of energy used and your bill. Added bonus: buyers relate dimmer switches as an upgrade and it makes the home feel more modern.
Tip 2. Add ceiling fans: Ceiling fans increase air circulation in a room, which is obviously great for the Florida heat! It helps your AC not work as hard to keep the home cool, but did you know that you can reverse the direction of the blades and also help out your heater? Yep, doing so will push hot air down and reduced the pull on your HVAC!
Tip 3. Change your air filters regularly: Depending on how many pets, allergies and HVAC usage, you want to set up a regular occurance of chaning out those filters. Don't just wait till you see dust coming out of the vents, if your filter is "full" it makes your system work even harder. Also, don't waste your money on the fancy filters, they may block more stuff but they also make your system work overtime because it can't flow through the filter as easily. Set a reminder on your calendar to change your filter so you don't forget.
Tip 4. Schedule yearly HVAC maintenance: Did you know you should actually have your HVAC scheduled yearly for maintance? Having a technician service your HVAC not only keeps your system running smoothly with less repairs BUT it also prolongs the life of your system. Most companies have a serivce that includes a yearly checkup and filters. Call your local company to see what they offer.
Tip 5. Change out your bulbs to LEDs: LEDs last forever, reducing the amount you spend on lightbulbs,as well as use less energy than incandescent or CFL bulbs. You can also get them in many different light temperatures and colors so you can customize the look of your rooms when the lights are on. Many are Alexa enabled as well so you can also set them up on timers to waste even less energy!
Tip 6. Landscaping! Here's one a lot of people don't think about... is your home shaded by trees or bushes? Adding a few trees that can help shade your home makes the home itself less hot which in turn leads to less AC run time.
With these easy and affordable changes you'll be saving money on your electric bill in no time.
